    THE COURSE

Due to major construction, the point-to-point route we have had for 40 years will not be possible any longer.  So, we set out to make a new route that would really showcase Milwaukee, the beauty of Lake Michigan and something completely different from our last route including one of the best views of the Cityscape on top of the Hoan Bridge.  This is a view is only available to runners in the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon and we think you’ll love your race photo at that location!  While there are a couple hills, there is nothing that is daunting or to worry about and the majority of the course is relatively flat.

The course starts near the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee’s “Third Ward District” and continues for 5 miles on Milwaukee city streets before we reach to cities of St. Francis, Cudahy and South Milwaukee.  Once in South Milwaukee we will enter beautiful Grant Park and take the Oak Leaf Trail (paved) back north for most of the route   The majority of this trail is right along the shore of Lake Michigan, so enjoy the scenery and enjoy the journey.  About Mile 20 you will be getting ready to cross over the Hoan Bridge for your scenic moment.  NOTE:  You MUST have maintained an average pace of 15 min./mile in order to get the chance to continue as our permit will only allow closure of the bridge traffic.  If you have not maintained this pace, we will ask you to allow us to give you a ride to the finish line party.  Once over the bridge we go through Veterans Park, the gorgeous crown jewel of Milwaukee County Parks and past Bradford Beach the largest natural beach in Milwaukee.  A turnaround leads you back through Veterans Park, a jaunt along the breakwater of the Lake and once again past the Calatrava designed Milwaukee Art Museum and Discovery World, a hands-on learning museum for families.  One lap on the Lakeshore State Park path (about a mile in  length) and you will enter the finish chute to the cheers from the throngs of adoring fans.  The after-party is only steps away!

The Half Marathon distance starts and finishes in the same places and follows most of the same course as the marathon but obviously turns around sooner.  See “Course” tab for map.

Our course will close 6.5 hours after the start of the race for both the half and full marathon.
