Start Time

Bright and early at 7:30 a.m. at Grafton High School (doors open at 6:00 am)

How do I get to the start?  Take the free shuttle, or have someone drive you there.

The Course

The Lakefront Marathon is a USATF certified course starting at Grafton High School. This flat and scenic point-to-point course travels south through rural countryside, quiet neighborhoods and finishes just yards from the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan in the famous Summerfest grounds (200 N Harbor Drive, Milwaukee, WI).

The Lakefront Marathon has been a Boston Marathon qualifying course for the past 38 years and will be again this year, even though the course is modified just slightly. The marathon starts at 7:30 am.  Early starts are not allowed due to safety concerns.  The course will close 6.5 hours after the start of the race.  Runner’s that will not be able to finish by the cut-off will not receive an official time and will need to relinquish their bib due to liability issues.  We will be pleased to offer your bib back upon your entry into our finish chute while we are allowed to stay and welcome you in.  We will be there at a minimum of 3PM and will stay until our finish venue needs to close.

Championship Event Series

The Lakefront Marathon serves as the Road Runners Club of America’s Central Region Championship and the Wisconsin USATF Championship.  Overall winners, Masters (40+), Grand Masters (50+) and Sr. Grand Masters (60+) will receive medals for their achievements.

Prize Money

Prize money has been increased in 2019!  Male and Female open first – third places ($1500/$1000/$500 respectively), and 1st masters (40 +) finishers male and female ($250) and 1st Grand Master (50 +) finishers male and female  ($250).

$5000 Bonus

The Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon is offering a $5000 BONUS to the first male and/or first female that completes our October 6, 2019 event in a time that meets or beats the standards needed to qualify for the U.S. Olympic marathon trials in 2020. The current published standards are: Male (2:19:00) and Female (2:45:00). Winner must adhere to all USATF rules and regulations. In the event a winner is an Interscholastic or collegiate athlete, the LFM suggests contacting your athletic department for advice on protecting your eligibility.  Athletes who qualify for the $5000 bonus (M/F) will be tested for performance-enhancers and verification that registered runner is same as runner who qualified.  Once both tests have cleared the athlete, checks will be mailed.  We have a fast course and our winners last year just missed the times needed.  We know we will be giving the bonus’ away this year!

Expo and Packet Pickup:

The expo will be held  on Saturday, October 5th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm at the UWM (Univ. of Wisconsin-Milwaukee) Ballroom, located at 2200 E Kenwood Blvd, Milwaukee, WI 53211.

A new partnership for 2017, the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon and The Westin Milwaukee want to bring you an amazing pre-race experience.  With a premier location in the East Town District, The Westin Milwaukee is just steps from the shores of Lake Michigan and the finish line of the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon.  A new location but the same tried and true volunteer run expo with local and national vendors.

Please bring your photo ID for packet pick up.  If you are unable to attend the expo, someone else may pick up your packet with a copy of your photo ID.  If you are from out of town and/or find it more convenient to desire “race day” packet pick up, that option is available for a $25 convenience fee.  Your packet will be waiting for you at the start line on race morning.  This fee only applies to runners who are interested in picking up their materials on Sunday morning in Grafton.  Runners are encouraged to attend the expo where they will find Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon merchandise, many local and national vendors, and have a chance to talk to pace team members.

All participants will be given an official Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon gear bag at packet pick up.  Use the bag to transport your personal items to the start line.  Runners are encouraged NOT to put valuables in the bag (cell phones, keys, wallets, etc.).  Personal bags and backpacks are not allowed on the shuttle buses.  Runners who purchased the race day packet pick up option and plan to ride the bus to Grafton can obtain a Lakefront Marathon gear bag from a volunteer at the shuttle bus stop.  Extra bags will be available at the start line.
