What is the Lakefront Marathon Kids Run?
The Kids Run is a non-competitive marathon distance run designed to promote physical activity for kids and their families. This event allows kids (ages 5 – 14 years of age) to go the full marathon distance one mile (or less) at a time. For 3-4 months prior to race day, participants will log their miles to reach the ultimate running distance of a marathon. Participants and their families are encouraged to get up and start moving by running or walking ¼ mile, ½ mile, ¾ mile, or 1 mile segments. Parents, teachers, or coaches will sign off on the portions of miles participants log in their mileage logbooks. Kids must have completed 25 total miles between Friday, June 1, 2012 and Friday, October 5, 2012. Completed logbooks will be turned in on race weekend.
On Saturday, October 6, 2012, participants will finish the last 1.2 miles of the marathon, on the race course. Participants will cross the same finish line as Lakefront Marathon runners, complete with cheering fans and official announcer! Afterward, stick with us in the finish area for some post-run snacks, games, and entertainment to celebrate.
What time does the race take place?
Tentative start time for the 2012 Kids Run is 3:00 p.m.
How should training miles be logged?
Once registration materials have been received by Kids Run staff, an official training logbook will be mailed to each registered runner. ** Kids must have completed 25 total miles between Friday, June 1, 2012 and Friday, October 5, 2012. Completed logbooks will be turned in on race weekend.
